Trump: We will give farmers the right to process their own food
Washington, August 28 (Hibya) - President of the United States (US) Donald Trump announced that preparations have begun for legislation that would give farmers the right to process their own products in order to reduce the influence of large food processing companies over farmers and livestock producers.
Trump argued that major processors in the sector had created a monopoly and said he had instructed that the necessary legal documents be prepared to break that power.
Trump said farmers and livestock producers were “always the number one priority” for him. Arguing that large food processors wield significant power over producers, Trump said the sector was essentially dominated by four major companies and claimed that this created a problem for competition.
Trump said, “To break this powerful monopoly, I am authorizing the preparation of legal documents that will allow farmers and livestock producers to process their own food.”
Trump said he expected the regulation to move forward quickly and also claimed that a significant portion of the ownership structure of major processors was located outside the United States.
