UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk said Sudan's natural resources are being exploited to fuel conflict and undermine human rights, stressing that companies working with these resources must carry out rigorous due diligence to comply with international law.

Emphasizing that natural resources should be used for the benefit of the people, Türk said: "Sudan's vast natural resources should benefit its people. Instead, they are being exploited to fuel conflict and undermine human rights."

Referring to the legal obligations of international commercial actors, Türk stated: "Companies dealing with Sudanese products must conduct rigorous due diligence to comply with international law."
