In a post on the ministry's social media account, it was stated that the attack targeted the Kherson Regional Art Museum named after Oleksii Shovkunenko. A fire broke out after the drone struck the building, causing various forms of damage to the museum.
The furniture and chairs inside the museum were reported to have been rendered completely unusable by the fire. The parquet flooring in the corridors was also said to have been partially damaged by the blaze.
Books located in the corridor of one of the museum's storage areas were also reported to have been damaged by the attack and the fire.
Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said there were no deaths or injuries in the incident.
The ministry noted that the museum damaged in the attack is a cultural heritage site marked with the international Blue Shield emblem.
The statement emphasized that cultural heritage sites are protected under international law and argued that the attack on the museum was part of broader threats to Ukraine's cultural heritage.
Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs also called on the international community, saying that Russia's attempts to destroy, burn and seize Ukraine's cultural heritage should not be ignored.
In its statement, the ministry stressed the importance of protecting Ukraine's history and cultural heritage, saying the attack once again demonstrated the risks facing the country's cultural assets during the war.
