Zelensky: Preventing such tragedies from happening again is our shared duty
Kyiv, October 6 (Hibya) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said at a ceremony marking the 85th anniversary of the Babyn Yar massacre and commemorating around 100,000 people that unity is needed to prevent similar tragedies from happening again.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky attended a commemoration ceremony in Kyiv marking the 85th anniversary of the Babyn Yar massacre.
Zelensky said at the ceremony, which was also attended by government delegations from Israel and Germany, that around 100,000 Jews, Ukrainians, Roma and people of different nationalities, professions and faiths who were killed by the Nazis were commemorated. Memorial candles were lit beside the menorah at Babyn Yar together with Israeli Minister Zeev Elkin, German Federal Minister Karin Prien, Yad Vashem World Holocaust Remembrance Center Chairman Dani Dayan, government officials, rabbis and ambassadors.
Zelensky said that despite Russia’s war, partners came to Kyiv on the 85th anniversary of the tragedy to honor the innocent victims. He stressed that standing together against evil to prevent similar tragedies from happening again is a shared duty.
