Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, delivered remarks on Friday at the Oxford Union in Oxford, England.
Al Thani stated that small but economically powerful states should assume a more active role in ensuring global peace and security. Speaking at the Oxford Union, he said these countries could contribute to international stability by combining their diplomatic experience with their economic strength. He described them as "prosperous states."
Criticizing the concentration of international peace and security decisions in the hands of a limited number of countries, Al Thani said regional conflicts threaten energy supplies, maritime routes and global markets.
Highlighting Qatar's experience in mediation, Al Thani explained that his country is working to prevent a new wave of tensions in the region. Emphasizing that prosperous states should act together, he noted that preserving global stability is a shared responsibility of the international community.
