Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand, in a statement marking National Peacekeepers' Day, highlighted her country's historic role in global peace and security missions and the sacrifices made by the personnel who have served in these efforts.

Referring to the contributions of Canadians who have served in peace missions around the world, Anand said, "For generations, Canadians have served the cause of peace around the world. More than 125,000 members of the Canadian Armed Forces, thousands of police officers and hundreds of civilians have carried out this responsibility with courage and dedication."

Emphasizing the significance and importance of National Peacekeepers' Day, Anand said, "On National Peacekeepers' Day, we remember the Canadians who lost their lives in service and honour all those who contribute to peace, security and human rights around the world."

Noting that these missions also carry a responsibility for the future, Anand concluded her statement by saying, "Their service remains an enduring part of Canada's legacy and our responsibility to those who come after us."
