Carney extends Bandi Chhor Divas greetings to Sikh community
Ottawa, November 8 (Hibya) – Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney extended his greetings to the Sikh community on the occasion of Bandi Chhor Divas, highlighting the importance of the values of justice, generosity and selfless service.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney issued a message on November 8, 2026, to mark Bandi Chhor Divas. In his message, Carney noted that Sikhs in Canada and around the world celebrate this sacred day to commemorate the sixth Sikh Guru, Guru Hargobind Sahib, and his release from imprisonment.
Carney stated that Bandi Chhor Divas brings families together around the values of faith, justice, generosity and selfless service. He emphasized that these values are upheld every day by Sikh communities across Canada and contribute to strengthening the country.
On behalf of the Government of Canada, Carney wished everyone taking part in the celebrations a happy Bandi Chhor Divas.
