Chinese Navy Spokesperson Senior Colonel Leng Guowei said today: “Although the Sanya naval base on Hainan Island in the south of the country is the main port of the aircraft carrier Fujian, the vast ocean will be its true home.”

The vessel, named after Fujian Province in eastern China, was commissioned into the People’s Liberation Army Navy on November 5 at a naval port in the city of Sanya. The Fujian, the largest warship in the Chinese Navy, was independently designed and built by China and was launched in June 2022.

Leng noted that many facilities and technologies on the Fujian were being used for the first time and said the carrier would continue undergoing extensive verification tests even after entering service.

He emphasized that China’s efforts to develop and improve weapons and equipment are not directed at any specific country and pose no threat to other nations or regions.

The spokesperson said these initiatives aim to safeguard China’s national sovereignty, security, and development interests.

Leng reminded that the Fujian is one of the country’s three active aircraft carriers and stated that future development plans for carriers will fully consider national defense needs.
