Estonia backs sanctions targeting 1,600 Russia-linked individuals and entities
Tallinn, October 10 (Hibya) - Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said pressure must be increased in response to Russia’s attacks on Ukraine and announced that Estonia would support sanctions targeting 1,600 individuals and entities linked to Russia’s military-industrial complex.
Estonian Foreign Minister Tsahkna said Russia’s attacks on Ukraine had caused loss of life, including among civilians and children, and called for increased pressure on Russia.
In a statement on social media, Tsahkna said that in recent weeks civilians had been killed in their beds and on buses, and that Russia’s attacks on Ukraine were becoming increasingly brutal.
Tsahkna said that to achieve a just peace and protect Europe’s long-term security, pressure on Russia must be increased and its ability to wage war must be restricted. He added that Europe would continue imposing sanctions, reducing Russia’s energy revenues and taking action against its shadow fleet.
Tsahkna also said Estonia supports the use of frozen Russian assets to provide support for Ukraine.
Referring to the meeting of the European Union Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) to be held in Luxembourg on Monday, Tsahkna said sanctions targeting 1,600 individuals and entities linked to Russia’s military-industrial complex would be approved.
Tsahkna emphasized the need to increase support for Ukraine so that the country can protect its people, independence and sovereignty.
