EU begins imposing customs duties on e-commerce goods valued under €150
Brussels, July 1 (Hibya) - European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that customs duties are now being applied to e-commerce shipments worth up to €150 entering the European Union (EU).
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that customs duties are now being applied to e-commerce shipments worth up to €150 entering the European Union (EU).
Von der Leyen stated that around 30 million people work in the retail sector across Europe, making it the largest source of private-sector employment.
She said the increase in low-value online imports has created unfair competition for local retailers, adding that a significant portion of these products fail to meet EU safety standards and pose risks to consumers.
The new regulation entered into force with the aim of restoring fairness for European businesses and providing stronger protection for consumers.
