Guterres: Every country must have a seat at the table in AI governance
New York, July 6 (Hibya) - United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that the computing power, data, and talent behind the world's most advanced AI systems are concentrated in only a handful of companies and countries.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned that if power imbalances in technology become permanent, inequality will also become embedded in the system, calling for fairness in global technology governance.
Addressing the dangers of technological concentration and digital inequality, Guterres said: "The computing power, data, and talent behind the most advanced systems are concentrated in a few companies and a few countries. When power imbalances become embedded in technology, inequality becomes part of the code."
Emphasizing that the future of artificial intelligence should be shaped through an inclusive approach, Guterres said: "When it comes to AI governance, every country must have a seat at the table."
