Herzog celebrates 30 years of Save a Child’s Heart's work
Jerusalem, October 18 (Hibya) - Israeli President Isaac Herzog highlighted the 30 years of work carried out by Save a Child’s Heart, noting that six-year-old Shalom Nyaluge from Malawi had recovered after undergoing heart surgery in Israel.
Israeli President Isaac Herzog hosted six-year-old Shalom Nyaluge from Malawi and his mother, Nelesi, at a special event held at the President's Residence in Jerusalem.
Herzog said that Shalom's family, whose son was born with a life-threatening heart condition, learned about the Israeli humanitarian organization Save a Child’s Heart while seeking treatment. He noted that the organization had provided free cardiac care to thousands of children to date.
Herzog said, "Over the past 30 years, Save a Child’s Heart has enabled more than 9,000 children from Africa, the Middle East, Asia, South America and other regions to receive life-saving cardiac treatment free of charge."
Herzog stated that Shalom, who underwent surgery in Israel in September, had recovered, been discharged from hospital and was preparing to return home. "Following his surgery in Israel, Shalom is now healthy and has been discharged. He will be able to return home and continue his life. There could be no more fitting word than his name, which means 'peace' in Hebrew, to describe what this organization has brought to the world," he said.
Herzog said he was honored to host the event celebrating the 30th anniversary of Save a Child’s Heart, adding, "You inspire us all."
