IAEA: Auxiliary facility of Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant hit
Vienna, August 2 (Hibya) – The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported that an auxiliary facility of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) in Ukraine was targeted in an attack.
The IAEA team received information from ZNPP that around 9:00 a.m., as military activity was felt, the site was hit by artillery fire and drone attacks.
The auxiliary facility is located 1,200 meters from the perimeter of the ZNPP site.
The military conflict in Zaporizhzhia has further highlighted the potential threats to nuclear safety.
Director General Grossi stated: “Whatever the target may be, any attack near a nuclear plant poses potential risks to nuclear safety and must be avoided. I call for maximum military restraint near nuclear facilities to prevent the ongoing risk of a nuclear accident.”
