Lazzarini emphasized that UNRWA is not pulling back from the region, but rather significantly expanding its service capacity.

He noted that since the start of the war, despite displacement and personal loss, 12,000 UNRWA staff members have continued working without interruption. Highlighting that education activities resumed quickly thanks to the ceasefire, he said: “Our teachers have brought more than 50,000 children back to in-person learning, and thousands more will be reached by the end of the year.”

Lazzarini also underlined the agency’s strong capacity in health services, adding: “Our medical staff provide 40% of primary healthcare services in Gaza, and our services expand each day. Our personnel continue to play a critical role in water distribution, public health promotion through vaccination campaigns, pest control, nutrition screenings, and solid waste disposal.”

He stressed that despite major challenges, UNRWA continues its work for Palestinian refugees in Gaza, the occupied West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, and Jordan.
