Meloni: Governments come and go, but the Constitution endures
Rome, March 16 (Hibya) - Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, referring to the debates on judicial reform, emphasized that citizens should make their decisions by considering the necessity of the reform for Italy rather than focusing on political conflicts.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni responded to criticism from the opposition regarding the planned fundamental changes in the justice system, particularly the issue of career separation.
Meloni criticized some leaders on the left and within the Democratic Party who, despite considering the reform correct, oppose it in order to “weaken the government.” She said: “Citizens should not fall into this trap that many want to set for them. When voting, they should consider not what suits the government or a party, but what they believe is most necessary and beneficial for Italy.”
Stating that constitutional regulations are a matter above parties, Meloni said: “I say this because governments come and go, parties do as well, but the Constitution endures and affects everyone’s life. This reform is neither right-wing nor left-wing; it is a simple reform based on plain common sense.”
Referring to the importance of provisions such as career separation within the reform, Meloni added: “It is clear that the only aim of those who harshly criticized these in the past was to politically attack the government. But the truth is that this reform is a fair one that affects everyone’s lives, our freedoms and our rights.”
