Message from Maduro: We are fine, we are fighters
Stockholm, January 11 (Hibya) – Speaking at an event of Venezuela’s United Socialist Party (PSUV), President Nicolás Maduro’s son, Nicolás Maduro Guerra, said on Saturday that his father is “fine” in New York, where he is being held by the U.S. government.
Quoting his father, Nicolás Maduro Guerra said: “The lawyers told us that he is strong. He told us not to be sad, that we are fine, that we are fighters. He is a man they could not defeat and were forced to use disproportionate force against, but they did not defeat him. He is strong.”
Last Saturday, January 3, 2026, following U.S. military attacks on civilian and military areas in the states of Miranda, Aragua and La Guaira, as well as on the country’s capital, Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores were abducted.
After their abduction, the head of state and his wife were taken on Monday, January 5, to a federal court in Manhattan, where Maduro said: “I am the president of Venezuela and I consider myself a prisoner of war.”
Following Maduro’s abduction, Venezuela’s Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) appointed Vice President Delcy Rodríguez as head of state.
