European Parliament President Roberta Metsola issued a congratulatory message following Ireland's assumption of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU).

Beginning her message with words in Irish, Metsola wished the people of Ireland success and stressed that Europe must act in unity over the next six months.

Referring to the phrase "Ní neart go cur le chéile" ("There is no strength without unity"), Metsola said this principle would serve as Europe's guiding motto during the coming period.

Metsola also said she looked forward to working closely with Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin, emphasizing the importance of cooperation and coordination within the EU.
