Netanyahu: We have an opportunity to reach a historic peace agreement with Lebanon
Jerusalem, April 16 (Hibya) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, following U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, referred to a new phase in the region and peace negotiations.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized that the balance in Lebanon has been altered through military operations since the "War of Independence" and spoke about a peace process based on the disarmament of Hezbollah.
Stating that a historic moment for peace has been reached, Netanyahu said: "We have an opportunity to reach a historic peace agreement with Lebanon. President Donald Trump plans to invite me and the President of Lebanon to advance this agreement."
Highlighting operational achievements, Netanyahu stated: "This opportunity exists because since the 'War of Independence' we have fundamentally changed the balance of power in Lebanon. We activated communication devices; we eliminated a massive arsenal of 150,000 rockets and missiles prepared by Nasrallah to destroy Israeli cities."
Clearly outlining his demands in the negotiations, Netanyahu said: "We have two main demands for these peace talks: First, the disarmament of Hezbollah. Second, a sustainable peace agreement—peace through strength. To secure this ceasefire, Hezbollah insisted on two conditions."
