U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that Ecuador's "Chone Killers" gang has been designated as both a Foreign Terrorist Organization and a Specially Designated Global Terrorist.

Rubio stated that the group collaborates with Mexican cartels in supporting illegal drug trafficking and uses these activities to finance terrorism and organized crime.

The statement said the gang has been involved in attacks against civilians, law enforcement personnel, and government officials, and has been linked to several high-profile assassinations.

Rubio emphasized that the United States will continue cooperating with the Ecuadorian government to strengthen regional security and dismantle "narco-terrorist" organizations.
