Sybiha: Russia’s energy attacks require accountability
Kyiv, February 7 (Hibya) – Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called for restrictions to be imposed on Rosatom and for arrest warrants to be issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against those responsible.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha commented on Russia’s overnight missile and drone attacks targeting Ukraine’s energy sector.
Drawing attention to the damage caused, Sybiha said: “Russia continues its attacks on Ukraine’s energy sector.”
Stressing that accountability is required, he stated: “Overnight, missiles and drones, particularly in western Ukraine, targeted energy facilities, leaving cities and settlements without electricity and heating, causing emergency outages and disrupting the operation of nuclear power plant units. Such attacks require accountability.”
Calling on the international community to take concrete steps, Sybiha concluded: “Sanctions pressure on Moscow must be increased, restrictions should be imposed on ‘Rosatom’ for assisting in the preparation of these attacks, those responsible for aggression must be held accountable within the IAEA, and additional ICC arrest warrants must be issued against criminals who plan and carry out attacks on civilians’ heating and energy sources in freezing conditions.”
