According to the report, Tehran is seeing relative calm on the streets, with fewer gunshots and fires being extinguished.

The slowdown came just two days after Donald Trump urged Iranians to “keep protesting and take over your institutions,” promising that “help is on the way.” Intelligence assessments indicated the United States was preparing to attack Iran; Trump had threatened such a move if the Iranian government killed protesters.

However, on Wednesday night Trump appeared to step back from the brink of military intervention, saying Iranian authorities had halted executions.

According to the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency, at least 2,637 people have been killed in the protests.

Among them is an Iranian Red Crescent worker whose death in northern Iran was announced on Saturday by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Five other Red Crescent workers were injured, prompting the organization to call for the protection of humanitarian workers.
