According to CCTV, US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that new strikes had been launched against Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targets in Iran.

CENTCOM said, “Today at 12:00 p.m. ET, US forces began striking Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targets in Iran.”

The development was reported to have occurred as tensions between Washington and Tehran escalated again following new attacks on Sunday. The clashes were said to be the first known direct exchange of attacks between the US and Iran since late July.

Explosions were reportedly heard on Tuesday in Iran’s port cities of Bandar Abbas and Sirik, as well as on Qeshm Island.

CENTCOM said Tuesday’s strikes were carried out following recent attempts by the IRGC to attack commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and US troops deployed in the region.

US President Donald Trump on Monday signaled that retaliation against Iran would take place, while also noting the possibility of restarting peace talks between the two countries.
