European Council President Costa said that, together with European leaders, they made contact with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky ahead of the upcoming meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump.

Emphasizing that the European Union’s support for Ukraine will not be interrupted during periods of war, peace, and reconstruction, Costa noted that recent EU decisions have made Ukraine stronger.

Costa pointed out that financing for Ukraine’s needs over the next two years has been secured, that Russian sovereign assets have been frozen on a long-term basis, and that sanctions against Russia have been extended.

Stressing that a strong and prosperous Ukraine within the EU is a core security guarantee, Costa underlined that close cooperation with the United States continues in order to achieve a solid and lasting peace for Ukraine.
