Costa said they discussed the topics to be addressed at the European Council meeting in October and highlighted France’s leading role in supporting Ukraine. He stated:

“The agreement reached by the Coalition of the Willing on a plan to implement security guarantees is an important step toward a just and lasting peace based on Ukraine’s sovereignty. At the same time, our work continues on a new sanctions package against Russia and on the EU accession process.

We also discussed the intolerable situation in the Middle East. I voiced my concerns about the ongoing military operation in Gaza. Respect for international law is non-negotiable, and I welcome France’s leading role in keeping the two-state solution at the center of the international agenda. On September 22, I will attend the conference jointly organized by France and Saudi Arabia.”
