Herzog: Political violence has no place in a democratic state
Tel Aviv, October 22 (Hibya) - Israeli President Isaac Herzog warned against political violence on the 31st anniversary of the assassination of former Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, stating that the perpetrator's sentence should not be reduced and that he should not be pardoned.
Israeli President Isaac Herzog recalled that 31 years had passed since the assassination of former Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, stating that the assassination targeted not only Rabin but the entire nation. Herzog said the murder was intended to override the will of the public through the use of a weapon and resolve disagreements through violence.
Herzog argued that Rabin's murderer should not be released and must serve his full sentence in prison, opposing any reduction of the sentence or granting of a pardon.
Herzog noted that despite the years that have passed, death threats against prime ministers, ministers, members of parliament and political leaders continue, emphasizing that political violence is unacceptable.
