Montenegrin President Jakov Milatovic stated that, during his visit to Vilnius, he had asked Lithuania to support the signing of Montenegro's European Union accession treaty during Lithuania's rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2027.

Milatovic emphasized that this step is important for Montenegro's goal of becoming the 28th member of the European Union by 2028. He welcomed Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda's statement that his country would continue supporting Montenegro's European integration and work to make progress in preparing the accession treaty.

Milatovic also reported that the discussions addressed strengthening the NATO alliance, European security, investments and cooperation in cybersecurity. He stated that they would continue working to achieve Montenegro's goal of European Union membership.
