Implementation challenges emerge over Israel–Lebanon framework agreement
Israeli experts say the implementation of the recently signed U.S.-mediated framework agreement between Israel and Lebanon could face significant obstacles.
According to CCTV, Israeli experts say the implementation of the recently signed U.S.-mediated framework agreement between Israel and Lebanon could face significant obstacles.
The agreement, signed following talks in Washington, is intended to end hostilities in southern Lebanon and was signed by the United States, Israel, and Lebanon.
Under the agreement, armed groups in Lebanon are to be disarmed, the Lebanese Army is to be deployed in southern areas, and Israel is to withdraw from the border zone.
However, Hezbollah rejected the agreement, declaring that it would oppose the process using all of its political and operational capabilities. Following the announcement, large numbers of Hezbollah supporters reportedly took to the streets of Beirut to protest the agreement.
Some Lebanese politicians also argued that the government lacked the authority to sign such an agreement and claimed that its implementation would not be feasible in practice.
Middle East expert Jacques Neriah stated that the Lebanese state's ability to implement the agreement is limited due to Hezbollah's strong influence, making the process highly uncertain.
Israeli security expert Or Yissachar said Israel could proceed with its withdrawal depending on the effectiveness of the Lebanese Army on the ground, but stressed that the process would be gradual and conditional.
On the Israeli side, reports said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) would not withdraw from the security zone unless Hezbollah is fully disarmed.
