German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated in two separate declarations that Germany remains committed to supporting Israel and contributing to lasting peace in the Middle East.

Highlighting the war trauma experienced in the region, Merz stressed the need to lay the foundations for a new political order, saying: “A new objective for the Middle East is needed; in such a Middle East, the State of Israel must be recognized as an integral part of it.”

Merz expressed hope that after years of terror and war, a better era will begin for the people of Israel. Calling for decisions that will lead to peace and good neighborliness, Merz told Prime Minister Netanyahu: “I hope decisions will be made that lead to peace and good neighborly relations. Germany will stand by you as a friend throughout this process.”
