Orban: There is no solution to the war on the battlefield
Budapest, December 15 (Hibya) – Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said there is no reason to change Hungary’s position, stressing: “There is no solution to the war on the battlefield.”
Prime Minister Orban said that Hungary’s position will be shaped by the EU Summit to be held this week in Brussels and that preparations are ongoing.
Noting that the Hungarian Parliament’s Advisory Body on EU Affairs will convene shortly, Orban said:
“The issue is extremely clear: war or peace? We have never been this close to ending the Russia–Ukraine war. Europe stands on the brink of a historic opportunity, because this war, which Europeans have failed to end for four years, may soon be ended by the Americans. All we need to do is support this process. Unfortunately, the signs point in the opposite direction.”
Orban stated that Europe wants to continue and even expand the war, adding: “The aim is to keep the war going along the Russia–Ukraine frontline and extend it into the economic sphere by seizing frozen Russian assets. This step amounts to an open declaration of war, which Russia will respond to.”
Emphasizing that there is no reason to change Hungary’s stance, Orban said: “This war has no solution on the battlefield. If a solution is not possible at the front, then the path of negotiation must be chosen, as U.S. President Donald Trump has done.”
Orban added: “For this reason, Hungary does not support the confiscation of frozen Russian assets, sends neither financial aid nor weapons to Ukraine, and does not take part in any EU credit serving war objectives. Fasten your seatbelts. A tough week awaits us.”
