Putin and Erdoğan discussed the rapidly deteriorating situation in the Middle East
Moscow, June 16 (Hibya) – Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a phone call during which they discussed the rapidly worsening situation in the Middle East.
The leaders expressed concern over the ongoing escalation of the Iran–Israel conflict.
The heads of state emphasized the need for an immediate cessation of hostilities and the resolution of issues related to Iran's nuclear program, condemning Israel’s military operation against Iran for violating the UN Charter and other norms of international law.
Turkey, meanwhile, focused its efforts on diplomatic initiatives to halt Tel Aviv's attacks on Tehran.
During the call, Erdoğan stated: “The spiral of violence that has continued since Israel’s attack on Iran threatens the security of the entire region.”
Putin thanked the Turkish side for its organizational assistance in direct Russia–Ukraine negotiations.
The leaders also discussed the energy sector, which will be addressed during Russian-Turkish contacts at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
