Zakharova said the Russian Foreign Ministry has taken into account the call by Volker Türk and the UN human rights body to the international community to take urgent steps to eliminate the impact of sanctions on the rights of the Iranian people.

She added that they hope countries around the world will respond to this call.

Zakharova also said the European Union (EU) has chosen to procure LNG from the United States, a more expensive and more environmentally damaging option, adding: “Given the EU’s anti-Russia policy, our response will be to redirect Russia’s natural gas supplies to the new centers of global economic growth, primarily Asia.”
