European left flocks to New York to watch Mamdani’s rapid rise
Stockholm, November 3 (Hibya) – According to Politico, Zohran Mamdani’s rise from a little-known New York State Assembly member to a leading contender in the New York mayoral race has sparked a new sense of optimism among Europe’s left-wing politicians ahead of next year’s local elections.
Several European leftist officials said they are in contact with Mamdani’s campaign team in New York, hoping to replicate his success in their own upcoming local elections.
Party strategists from across Europe are crossing the Atlantic to learn from a millennial who rose rapidly from obscurity to the top of the most important city in the United States (or, as New Yorkers might say, in the world).
They want to see whether Mamdani’s grassroots campaign, focused on economic issues, can work in their own cities and regions just as it did in New York’s Democratic primary — and potentially in Tuesday’s election as well.
