German Chancellor Merz: Lasting peace is only possible with a sovereign and strong Ukraine
Berlin, December 15 (Hibya) – German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated in Berlin that Ukraine must be strong enough to defend itself against attacks and noted that cooperation can bring an end to the armed conflict.
Chancellor Merz said that lasting peace in Europe is only possible with a sovereign Ukraine capable of defending itself. He noted that cooperation between German and Ukrainian companies would be strengthened, saying: “Only by demonstrating our strength can we end this senseless war.”
Merz emphasized that for the first time since the start of the war, a ceasefire appears possible, and said: “For the first time since the beginning of the war, a ceasefire seems possible. On the path to peace, we want to move forward together with Ukrainians, our partners in Europe, and the United States of America (USA). I believe that today in Berlin we have taken an important step in this direction.”
Merz stated that steps toward peace will be taken through joint efforts with Ukraine, European countries, and the United States.
