Poland: One detained on suspicion of planning a bomb attack on a Christmas market
Stockholm, December 16 (Hibya) – According to Poland’s TVP television, a Polish university student has been detained on suspicion of planning a bomb attack on a Christmas market.
Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW) caught Mateusz W., a student at the Catholic University of Lublin in eastern Poland, while he was preparing explosives for a terrorist attack.
Jacek Dobrzyński, spokesman for the Coordinator of Special Services, said in a post on X: “Earlier, the suspect was independently acquiring knowledge on how to produce materials intended to be used to carry out a terrorist act.”
The spokesman added: “He also planned to join a terrorist organization to obtain assistance in carrying out the planned activities. The aim of the crime was to intimidate many people and support ISIS.”
Dobrzyński reported that ABW officers seized data storage devices and items related to Islam. By court order, the suspect will remain in custody for the next three months.
