New York, December 19 (Hibya) – United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi announced that 85,000 Congolese refugees have fled violence and sought refuge in Burundi during the month of December.
UN High Commissioner for Refugees Grandi said that, in this month alone, 85,000 Congolese refugees have fled violence and taken refuge in Burundi.
Grandi noted that an additional 500,000 people have been displaced within the Democratic Republic of the Congo, adding that neither country has the resources to cope with a crisis of this magnitude.
Grandi said, “Until progress is made in peace talks, humanitarian organizations urgently need funding to save lives and prevent a deadly humanitarian catastrophe.”
