Kremlin defends restrictions on mobile internet
Moscow, July 17 (Hibya) – Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, commenting on reports of mobile internet restrictions in various regions of Russia, said, “The threat from the Kyiv regime is clear, and the security measures taken are therefore justified.”
Since June, several Russian regions have experienced systematic disruptions in mobile communication and internet access. These disruptions are reportedly due to security measures taken in response to increased drone attacks by Ukraine.
Peskov stated, “Everything related to security and ensuring citizens' safety is justified. And everything takes priority. The threats are real and evident. The actions and nature of the Kyiv regime are clear and unchanged. Appropriate measures must be taken.”
He also noted that he is unaware of any plans to establish a body to coordinate mobile internet shutdowns in Russia. “We already have mechanisms for counter-terrorism – anti-terrorism committees and special departments. So we already have a functioning system,” he said.
