Berlin, January 1 (Hibya) – German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced that the Greek Cypriot Administration will assume the Presidency of the Council of the European Union as of January 1, 2026.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that the Greek Cypriot Administration will take over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union starting January 1, 2026.
Merz said they are ready to cooperate with Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides.
The statement emphasized working together on a financially agile Europe, strengthening Europe’s competitiveness, and reducing bureaucracy.
