Von der Leyen: Cyprus’ EU Council Presidency begins at a critical time
Brussels, January 1 (Hibya) – European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen officially welcomed the Greek Cypriot Administration’s (GCA) assumption of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU). Von der Leyen stressed that Cyprus’ priorities focus on strengthening Europe’s autonomy.
European Commission President von der Leyen welcomed the launch of the GCA’s 2026 Presidency of the Council of the EU.
In her statement, she said: “Cyprus’ EU Council Presidency begins at a critical time for Europe. Therefore, Cyprus’ focus on strengthening Europe’s autonomy is more important than ever.”
Von der Leyen also noted that she looks forward to working with the GCA to enhance Europe’s level of preparedness and competitiveness.
