Merz: We call on Iran to refrain from actions that could destabilize the region
Berlin, June 22 (Hibya) - German Chancellor Friedrich Merz held talks with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron regarding developments in the Middle East.
Chancellor Merz discussed the latest developments in the Middle East with Starmer and Macron, reiterating his commitment to peace and stability for all countries in the region. He stated: "We reaffirm our support for Israel's security."
Merz stressed that Iran must never acquire nuclear weapons and must no longer pose a threat to regional security:
"Earlier today, the United States carried out targeted military strikes on nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. Our goal remains to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. We call on Iran to engage in negotiations leading to an agreement that addresses all concerns about its nuclear program. We are ready to contribute to this goal in coordination with all parties."
Calling on Iran to refrain from any action that could destabilize the region, Merz added: "We will continue our joint diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions and prevent further escalation of the conflict."
