Meta is among the major tech companies that have recently offered multimillion-dollar salary packages to AI researchers and signed high-profile deals to accelerate work on machines that can think faster than humans, a concept known as "superintelligence" or "artificial general intelligence."

Zuckerberg said the first multi-gigawatt data center, called Prometheus, is expected to go online in 2026, and another called Hyperion could scale up to 5 gigawatts in the coming years.

“We are also building several more Titan clusters. Just one of them covers a significant portion of the area of Manhattan,” he said.

He also pointed to a report by industry publication SemiAnalysis noting that Meta is on track to become the first AI lab to bring a supercluster larger than a gigawatt online.

Despite investor concerns over whether the spending will pay off, Zuckerberg argued that the strength of the company’s core advertising business justifies the large expenditure.

“We have the capital from our business to achieve this,” he said.

The company, which earned approximately $165 billion in revenue last year, reorganized its AI efforts last month under a new division called Superintelligence Labs, following setbacks in its open-source Llama 4 model and major staff departures. This division is expected to generate new revenue streams from the Meta AI app, image-to-video ad tools, and smart glasses.
