European Parliament President Metsola said that she conveyed her most sincere wishes to the leader of the Greek Cypriot Administration, Nikos Christodoulides, on the occasion of Cyprus taking over the Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2026.

Expressing her confidence that under Christodoulides’ leadership Europe can continue to develop as a union that is open to the world and strategically autonomous, Metsola said, “The European Parliament is ready to cooperate with you as a strong and reliable partner over the next six months.”

European Council President Antonio Costa, for his part, stated: “Mr. Nikos Christodoulides and Cyprus, holder of the 2026 EU Council Presidency, I wish you a productive and successful presidency. I look forward to our close cooperation and to working together over the next six months for a stronger and more resilient Europe.”
