Sybiha: Russia’s attacks threaten nuclear safety
Kyiv, January 20 (Hibya) – Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said that Russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure directly threaten nuclear facilities.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha made a statement on the impact of Russia’s systematic attacks on energy infrastructure on nuclear safety.
Highlighting the risk to nuclear facilities, Sybiha said: “Russia’s reckless attacks are threatening nuclear safety. Russia is systematically attacking Ukraine’s energy infrastructure to create the risk of power outages for nuclear facilities, including Chornobyl and other nuclear power plants.”
Describing the situation as a tool of nuclear pressure, Sybiha added: “This has nothing to do with ‘Atoms for Peace’. This is the use of nuclear risk as a tool of coercion.”
Emphasizing the need for concrete steps within the IAEA, Sybiha said: “Ukraine is intensifying its engagement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). We call on the IAEA Board of Governors to act decisively and urgently convene a Board meeting to decide on Russia’s presence on the Board.”
