Thailand and Cambodia continue clashes
Stockholm, July 27 (Hibya) – Cambodia and Thailand entered the fourth day of clashes on their disputed border on Sunday, following U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement that the two Southeast Asian countries had agreed to ceasefire talks, and his warning that ongoing violence could jeopardize trade deals with Washington.
According to Thai and Cambodian officials, at least 32 people have been killed and over 200,000 displaced since Thursday, despite calls from the UN, the U.S., and China to end the fighting.
Both sides blamed each other for starting the latest border conflict and held one another responsible for the continued clashes.
A few hours after Trump’s statement, the Thai government said on Sunday that it was "not ready" to halt military operations and accused Cambodia of continuing heavy artillery fire against civilians in Surin province, along the border and in other areas.
Trump stated he warned the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia that he would not pursue trade deals with either country if the deadly border clashes continued.
