Trump calls Epstein conspiracy a "hoax"
Washington, July 17 (Hibya) - U.S. President Donald Trump harshly attacked his own supporters who questioned the transparency of a secret government investigation into Jeffrey Epstein, the infamous socialite and sex offender who died by suicide in custody, calling them naive "weaklings."
The president is struggling to contain a political crisis within his usually loyal Make America Great Again (MAGA) base, fueled by suspicions that the administration hid details of Epstein’s crimes to protect wealthy elites, including Trump himself.
In a lengthy post on the social media platform Truth Social on Wednesday, Trump accused his voters of falling for a "radical left" hoax fabricated by the opposition to discredit him.
"Their new SCAM is something we will forever call the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax, and my FORMER supporters believed this ‘nonsense’ hook, line, and sinker. They learned nothing, and probably never will, even after being deceived by the Crazy Left for eight long years."
"Let these weaklings keep going and do the Democrats’ bidding – don’t even think about mentioning our incredible and unprecedented success, because I no longer want their support!" he wrote.
One of the most dramatic theories circulating among Trump supporters is that Epstein, who died in federal custody in 2019, was murdered by powerful figures to cover up their involvement in sex crimes against minors.
Republican voters and politicians have pressured Trump to release documents related to the case, known as the “Epstein Files.”
Many Truth Social users responded to Trump’s post, calling for more information to be released. One comment read, “Mr. President, you're losing your most loyal supporters and voices.” Another stated, “Why are you protecting pedophiles?”
Trump’s Wednesday remarks sharply contrasted with his earlier attempts to calm supporters. On Tuesday, he called the investigation "boring" and tried to deflect attention, while vaguely supporting the release of “credible” files without specifying what they were.
