Tsahkna: We must not allow a repeat of the Chernobyl tragedy
Tallinn, April 26 (Hibya) - Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna, in a statement marking the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, recalled that the tragedy caused by Soviet negligence affected millions of people across Europe.
Tsahkna also referred to Russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and its occupation of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. He said this shows that the lessons of the 1986 Chernobyl disaster have not been learned and that it creates a new nuclear risk.
Emphasizing that Russia must withdraw from energy facilities in Ukraine, Tsahkna called on the international community to impose stronger sanctions, stating: “We must not allow a repeat of the Chernobyl tragedy.”
