In a statement from the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), it was reported that a natural gas field with a capacity of 100 billion cubic meters has been discovered in the deep coal deposits to the east of the Ordos Basin.

The coal deposits in the Shenfu field in Shaanxi province, China, are located at a depth of about 2,000 meters and contain an average of about 15 cubic meters of gas per ton of coal. The new discoveries suggest that the potential of the gas field is larger than expected and is of great importance for China's national energy security and the development of its western regions.
