ISW: Russians advance northwest of Avdiyivka
Stockholm, May 5 (Hibya) - Russian forces have made a "significant" tactical advance in eastern Ukraine, capturing several villages, according to a daily report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
According to ISW, raising the Russian flag in the village of Arkhanhelske has been confirmed. The village is located in the Donetsk region, 15 kilometres northwest of Avdiyivka, which the Russians captured in February.
SW wrote that this probably means the Russians also control the villages of Keramik and Novokalynove, southeast of Arkhanhelske.
While Russian military bloggers note that Ukrainian forces withdrew from Arkhanhelske on Friday, ISW believes that they want to buy time while waiting for Ukraine's promised US arms delivery.
