Katz: We are declaring war on those involved in smuggling
Jerusalem, November 6 (Hibya) – Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that he had instructed the Israel Defense Forces to designate the area adjacent to the Israel–Egypt border as a closed military zone and to change the rules of engagement to counter unmanned aerial vehicles that threaten the country’s security.
Defense Minister Katz stated that he had ordered the Israel Defense Forces to make the area near the Egyptian border a closed military zone and to adjust the rules of engagement to address drone threats to national security.
He added that, under the agreement reached with Shin Bet Director David Zini, the Shin Bet will begin classifying arms smuggling via drones as a terrorist threat, noting:
“Arms smuggling using drones is part of the conflict in Gaza and aims to arm our enemies; all necessary measures must be taken to stop it. Today, we are declaring war on those involved in smuggling. Anyone who infiltrates the restricted zone will be harmed.”
