Colombian President Petro announced his plan to rebuild Gran Colombia, saying: “Gran Colombia was Bolívar’s idea, and I propose, by the will of the people, to turn it into a confederation of autonomous nations.”

Petro stated that within this confederation, common policies would be implemented on issues determined by the people, emphasizing the goal of turning the region’s geographic position into a hub for industrialization, clean energy, knowledge, and high-technology infrastructure.

Petro added: “Accordingly, a Gran Colombia Parliament, a court of justice, and a governing council will be established, just like in the European Union or the U.S. federal system.”

He also highlighted the region’s strong potential in tourism and global transportation.
