Prevot: Solidarity should also have a place in international cooperation
Brussels, May 18 (Hibya)- Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot expressed his satisfaction that the humanitarian dimension of international cooperation and the value of solidarity were addressed at the Foreign Affairs Development Council.
Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot stated that in the face of global crises, there is a need for international cooperation focused not only on security but also on solidarity.
Referring to the agenda of the Development Council, Prevot said, “It was finally gratifying today at the Foreign Affairs Development Council to address international cooperation from a humanitarian perspective.”
Pointing to global instability and the foundation of cooperation, Prevot stated, “In an increasingly brutal and unstable world, cooperation is constantly reshaping itself, often around security. But there must also be room for international cooperation driven by something more fundamental: solidarity.”
Giving examples through global health crises, Prevot concluded, “The need has never been clearer. The hantavirus crisis and the Ebola outbreak in the Great Lakes region show how important cooperation focused on global public goods, especially health, truly is.”
